Australia has a strong history of arts philanthropy, which has powerfully fuelled the ambitions of artists and arts professionals. Over the last decade there have been new developments in arts philanthropy, which are bringing exciting new opportunities but also exposing complexities.
This panel will explore the current status of Australian arts philanthropy through hearing from panellists who variously give, ask for, or receive arts philanthropy. What is the status of arts philanthropy in Australia? What shifts are occurring? What are the challenges and the opportunities?
The Margaret Lawrence Bequest continues to support many projects for the advancement of women, education and the arts. Give It Up For Margaret is a month-long program of philanthropic inspiration.
This event will be held in the recently refurbished Grant St Theatre and the new Lionel Gell Lounge. The programming of Lionel’s Lounge is supported by the Lionel Gell Foundation, creating an exciting new live performance destination and bar.
Facilitator: Alex Furman, Deputy Director of Development, University of Melbourne
'Supported by Melbourne Conversations – An initiative of the City of Melbourne'.
